On 24-25th February Dept. of Library and Information Science, Mangalore University in association with Karnataka State SC/ST Library professionals Association (R.), Bangalore had organised  a two-day National level Conference on the theme "Democratization of Information Using ICT: Role of Libraries for Social Enlightenment’ (DEMICT 2014) at Mangala Auditorium, Mangalore University. During the conference, the association conferred State Level BEST LIBRARIAN AWARD to Dr. Vishala B.K., Librarian of St. Agnes College, Mangalore. Dr. P. Y. KALA AWARD (National Level Award)-16-11-2013

Karnataka State Library Association (KALA) , Bangalore, established in the year 1964 with the aims and objectives  to advance knowledge of the principles and practice of Library and Information Science among the library professionals, to initiate, sponsor, undertake, encourage and promote scholarly study and research and consultancy work in the fields of library science and services etc. The Association shall constantly strive to relate its academic work to social needs of the community, and shall focus its research and consultancy work to socially relevant themes. Association organises various lectures, seminars, workshops and other instructional programmes to enhance the knowledge of the library professionals.

Association recognizes the professionals by conferring KALA National Award, for the contributions made in the field of Library and Information Science. This award was conferred  on Dr. Vishala B.K. Selection Grade Librarian of  St. Agnes College, Mangalore for her contributions in the field of Library and Information Science. The award was conferred on the inaugural function of 6th KALA Seminar held on 16th November, 2014 at the Seminal Hall, City Central Library, West Zone, Hampinagar, (RPC Layout), Vijayanagar, Bangalore. Dr. Chiranjeevi Singh, IAS, Former additional Chief Secretary, Govt.of Karnataka, Dr. Gururaj Karjagi, Chairman, Academy of Creative Teaching, Bangalore, Dr. M M Badni, Director, Dept. of Public Libraries, Bangalore, Dr.Krishnamurthy, President of KALA,  Prof. T D Kemparaju, DLISc., Bangalore University and H Rajendra Babu, General Secretary, KALA were present.
